The Blackfoot Swan News provides updates on the activities of the Trumpeter Swans that have been released in the Blackfoot Watershed as part of the Trumpeter Swan Restoration Program.  Most current posts are written by Elaine Caton, who monitors the swans and records their activities and locations for the Blackfoot Challenge.

  1. Hello. I am writing an article about bird movement for the MT Naturalist magazine, and I was wondering if I could include some information on where the Blackfoot swans go in the winter. It would also be great to include a picture of one of the re-sighted swans, like the one of “Swan 5A9 near Challis, ID on 10/31/2012”. Would this be possible? If so, it would be great if you could fill in the blanks in this sentence:

Most Trumpeter Swans breeding in the Blackfoot Valley overwinter in xxxx, but they have been re-sighted as far away as xx, xx, and xx.

Or if their overwintering locations are so dispersed that the above sentence doesn’t make sense, could you submit a few sentences that summarize their movement? Please let me know how to credit any information or photos you are willing to share. Thanks, Kate Stone
